Bama Baseball Sweeps 9th Ranked Ole Miss

Image
J ON KELLER, Y'ALL!!!  For the first time in 11 years, Bama baseball swept a top 10 team this weekend.  And it was glorious.  Keller sealed the deal today by pitching his first complete game.  When pitching coach Dax Morris tried to intervene before the top of the 9th, Keller rebutted, "You've come all this way, what's 10-12 more pitches".  After throwing 119 pitches overall, he proved that those 10-12 more pitches were A LOT!  Everything about this weekend spells out why the Bama Nation should be getting pretty fired up about Bama Baseball!  While pitching & defense this season has been lights out, only recently has the batting come alive.  And man are they putting on a show!!!  Don't believe me? Check out the game winning walk-off hit last night.... And the atmosphere?  I continue to be blown away!  The Right Field Ragers' lack of presence due to spring break was definitely apparent, but the atmosphere was still explosive th

Porch Swings And Rocking Chairs

Image
A s long as I can remember, I have just loved rocking chairs & porch swings...  I don't know what it is about them.  They just remind me that everything's right in the world.  I was lucky enough to grow up next door to my grandparents.  They've always had a swing and several rocking chairs.  I can remember laying on that yellow leather swing when I was little.  The coolness felt so good to my sticky back from the perspiration from whatever imaginary world I had just survived...  And sharing my ham sandwich with their dog, Gee-Gee (that dog was one of the greats, btw. RIP).  One of my sweetest memories is a little crimson red rocking chair I had when I was about as old as the last national championship Bama won.  Just imagine what the first la-z-boy looked like, take it back 20 years, and then shrink it down to toddler size.  Thank goodness my mama was skinny as a rail because she sat in that little rocking chair & rocked me to some pretty sweet dreams more nigh

Bama Upgrades A-Day Experience...

Image
N ick Saban & Lane Kiffin are pretty excited, y'all!!!  And they want you to be a part of it.  With A-Day at The University of Alabama right around the corner, they're rolling out the crimson carpets hoping to entice fans to attend the annual spring game.  In an ongoing effort to exceed 2007's packed house, fans are being offered a day full of activities to choose from this year. Saban has often attributed his first #1 signing class in 2008 to their A-Day experience.  Seeing the importance of attendance, they've outdone themselves to make sure attending the spring game is worthy of your time.  Here is the schedule of events planned for the big day: Starting at 9 am, Mercedes Benz Fanfest begins.  It's a kid friendly event complete with inflatables for the kiddies & bigscreens with memorable Bama moments to make the inflatables bearable for the parents. South Field Suites- Enjoy the luxury of the Suite Life for just 20 bucks!  Meal & program incl

T he red carpet was rolled out today for auburn university's new head coach, Bruce Pearl.  And rightfully so.  After suffering through 4 long years watching Tony Barbee coach some of the worst basketball EVVA, Athletic Director Jay Jacobs managed to pull off the ultimate coup earlier today.  Not only has he guaranteed a ticket punched to the big dance, he trolled the hell out of us Bama fans. Well played, Mr. Jacobs... Well played, indeed... Meanwhile, at Coleman Coliseum.... Crickets... Thanks for stopping by, y'all!!! Roll Tide!!! Roll Bama Baseball!!! 17-3 Win Tonight!!!

Auburn Hires Pearl... Well, That Sucks.

Image
I t's been a pretty bad week for Bama Basketball fans, y'all...  First, Alabama Athletic Director Bill Battle announced that Anthony Grant will be retained for yet another season.  Now news has broken that Bruce Pearl, the man I've been campaigning to be Bama's coach FOR 2 LONG YEARS , has been hired by auburn.  So thanks to Battle's complete incompetence, Bama fans remain in a perpetual state of despair while auburn fans are celebrating a slam dunk hire. Last Friday, Battle broke the bad news that he doesn't give a single shit about our basketball program.  After suffering through 5 years of bad basketball & a winless season on the road, Battle had an opportunity that legacies are made of.  By firing Grant & hiring Bruce Pearl, he could have rejuvenated this beatdown fanbase while giving Bama Hoops the opportunity to be great again.  But instead, he posted a diatribe in support of Grant & sentenced us all to what will inevitably be another dis

I Broke Up With Bama Hoops Today...

Image
A fter spending the better part of the day kicking puppies & punching walls, I finally pulled myself together.  After reading University of Alabama Athletic Director Bill Battle's blog, The Battle Plan (I've since renamed it The Fail Plan), I was admittedly EXTREMELY upset.  But several expletives & a possible broken hand later, I had a moment of clarity.  Why should I care?  Why should I invest my emotions, my time, & my money into something that the people running it clearly don't give a single shit about?  The bulldozer of bullshit Bill Battle dumped in my inbox today was a slap in the face to anyone who is truly a fan of Alabama Basketball. Battle stated, "The power of the NCAA Tournament appears to have diminished interest in the regular season".  Ummm. I am fairly certain losing had more to do with lack of interest this year.  He went on to discuss the 'One & Done" rule & its detrimental effect on college basketball.  Hey Coa

Debunking The Show-Cause Myth

Image
I recently read an article detailing the 10 most misunderstood words in the English language.  The list contained words like infamous, historical, systematic, & alternate.  There were also some words I'm guilty of using incorrectly such as nauseous, precocious, & moot. Since the Bruce Pearl debate has really heated up lately, that article inspired me to write one of my own because never has a sports term been more misunderstood than the NCAA show-cause penalty.  After educating myself on what it actually means, I decided to debunk the myths surrounding this dreaded word.             _______________________________________________________ MYTH The show-cause penalty is intended to destroy a coach's career & schools who hire a coach with one on his resume' will be highly scrutinized by the NCAA.  In other words, a show-cause is shorthand for a coach becoming unhireable in collegiate athletics. REALITY The intent of a show-cause is to keep a coach from

Sherman Williams Freed From Prison

Image
H ow many of you remember the Sherman Shake?  For those too young to remember, it was the signature touchdown dance of Alabama running back, Sherman Williams.  Williams holds a special place in Alabama football history scoring the first touchdown in the 1992 Sugar Bowl, the game that ultimately decided the National Championship that year.  After a successful college career, he was drafted by The Dallas Cowboys where he spent the next 4 years. In 2000, Williams traded in his famous #20 jersey for inmate no. 07520-003 when he was convicted for conspiracy to distribute marijuana and passing counterfeit currency.  During the investigation, police seized over 1,000 pounds of marijuana that had been brought from Texas to the Mobile, AL area. During his 14 year prison sentence, Williams was never too far away from football.  Still an avid fan of the Crimson Tide, he caught as many games on television as he could including the National Championship victories against Texas, LS
