Bama Baseball Robbed Of Chance To Win Championship

Five hours after Bama went down in the Tallahassee Regional Championship to Kennesaw State & I'm still ticked off.  After Bama Bats came out flat in game 1 of the tournament, they rallied & made a phenomenal (and sometimes horrifying) run to make it to today's championship that would send them to the Super Regionals.  Pitchers Justin Kamplain & Geoffrey Bramblett had pitched complete games putting Bama in a great position to clinch today's win.  Bama struggled offensively against KSU pitcher Travis Bergen going down 1-0 early in the game.

But heading into the 9th, this Bama team did what we've seen them do several times before & rallied to give them a chance to come out on top.  Trailing 4-2 & just 1 out, a walk by Ben Moore & a single by Wade Wass put the tying runs on the board.  However, they got a 2nd out when Austen Smith popped out to 1st base leaving the fate of the season in the hands of Kyle Overstreet.  He was called out & Bama's road to Omaha was detoured back to T-town after one of the most horrendous 3rd strike calls I've ever witnessed.

I'm not gonna Gump too hard on y'all tonight and tell you that if not for that call,  Bama would have won the game today.  But dang it, they could have.  But after a season of some of the highest highs & the lowest lows, the team & it's fans were robbed of ever knowing the answer to that question.  Were the odds against us? Sure they were.  You can't leave 13 men stranded on base & expect to win the game.  But their rally in the 9th gave them a fighting chance.

The video clearly shows a terrible call that Crimson Tide Sports Network announcer Chris Stewart described as, "disgusting".  If you follow me on twitter, I wasn't as classy in my description of what unfolded.

Here's the thing, this team has worked endlessly to accomplish their goals this year.  Their coaches have logged 7-day work weeks for months to help this team achieve the greatness we all had hoped for.  While you were on message boards whining & moaning, these men were working as hard as they possibly could to put those kids in a position to win.  Did you miss a loved one's college graduation?  A coach on this staff did.  And it's heartbreaking to lose in such a terrible way after putting everything you have into it.  Bama may have lost today even if that call wasn't made.  But they sure as hell had  earned the right to find out.  And that is the worst part of it all....

Roll Tide!!! Roll Bama Bats!!! Roll Coach Ben!!!

  1. That was one of the worst calls I have ever seen. I'm still pissed off about it.
