Out With The Old, In With The New

The University of Alabama Baseball Team beat Mississippi State yesterday in a nail biter giving us a lot of momentum going into this week's SEC Tournament.  But more importantly, they gave Sewell-Thomas Stadium a win in the last game to be played in the stadium as we know it.  Though there has been much success in the stadium we lovingly call, 'The Joe', lack of renovations have caused the Crimson Tide to fall behind almost every other school in the conference.

In the coming days, a $35 million renovation project will begin on the baseball facilities.  And though some of the existing structures will be utilized, for all intents & purposes this will be a brand new stadium!  Some of the new amenities will include:
  • A free-standing indoor hitting facility
  • The field will be rotated 5 degrees creating new sight lines so people can actually see plays happening down the right field line
  • Luxury suites
  • Inside concession stands so we won't have to miss another Mikey White home-run
  • Banners recognizing the history of success this program has achieved
  • My personal favorite; more awnings to block us from the rain & the sun!
  • Also included will be a new locker room, weight room, & 4 new batting cages

Given the NCAA limit on scholarships coupled with Bama's lack of lottery schollies other schools in the SEC are afforded, the antiquated facilities have been an achilles heel in recruiting.  Take a look at what Gaspard has been competing against right here in our own conference:

Sewell-Thomas Stadium "The Joe"

Alex Box Stadium

Blue Bell Park

Sarge Frye Field

Lindsey Nelson Stadium

Dudy Noble Field

McKethan Stadium

Swayze Field

Baum Stadium

As you can see, Bama's coaching staff has done a remarkable job given these circumstances.  The future is bright for the Crimson Tide Baseball Program!!!  State of the art facilities, the highly touted rookie strength & conditioning coach Ben Ashford, & a group of freshman who've displayed some amazing talent are the formula Bama has been needing to make it back to Omaha.

So come out to The Hoover Met this Tuesday at 4:30 & support the 8th seeded Crimson Tide as they take on 9th seed Kentucky in the kick-off single elimination round!  Georgie Salem, Ben Moore, Wade Wass, & Mikey White will surely be entertaining!

Don't forget your shades! The future's bright for Crimson Tide Baseball!!!

Plans for the new & improved Sewell-Thomas Stadium

Roll Tide!!!  Roll Bama Baseball!!!  Roll Coach Ashford!!!
