The SEC's Hottest Ticket- Ranking SEC Ticket Prices Down The Stretch

Image
W ith LSU's mid-season improvement, I've been pondering whether I should make the trip to Baton Rouge this year.  A key factor in this decision is what the tickets are going for.  Clearly, their win over Ole Miss has made this a much more attractive ticket now with ticket prices ranging from $175 to over $2,500 (seriously, who the heck pays $2,500 for a football ticket???).  This revelation coupled with the inaugural rankings released last night got me curious about which match-ups have the most expensive tickets down the stretch.  After a quick trip to Stub Hub this morning, I was able to rank the conference's most expensive tickets for the remainder of the 2014 season. I.  The Iron Bowl It should come as no surprise that the hottest ticket is the Alabama Auburn rivalry game.  One can witness the Iron Bowl in Bryant Denny Stadium this November for roughly $312 per ticket. II.  The Egg Bowl Though I am not well versed in the prices of the an...

The College Football Playoff Committee's First Rankings- My Take

Image
T his may surprise you,[p but I love beauty pageants.  I don't necessarily enjoy watching them...  But 20 years ago participating in them, and many years later as my sister's pageant coach were some of the most thrilling times.  Those moments right before they announce the winners where your heart is beating so hard that you are sure others can hear it.  And as the emcee gives the speech that not one person gives a single shit about, all you can think of is, "JUST TELL US ALREADY!". Of course tonight's first rankings released by the College Football Playoff Committee wasn't exactly the equivalent of someone putting a tiara on your baby sister's head.  The fact is that they don't mean much at all.  Being the resident conspiracy theorist, the reason I was tuned in so closely was just to get a feel on how each conference would be perceived.  I mean let's be honest.  SEC fatigue has become more contagious than a prostitute from Sierra Leone.  I...

Hotty Toddy! 4 Interesting Storylines Surrounding This Weekend

Image
For the first time, GameDay hits The Grove this weekend to preview #11 Ole Miss taking on the 3rd ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  And while their coaches, players, & faculty are dealing with the circus that is ESPN, The Tide is quietly preparing for their business trip to Oxford, Mississippi.  Here are 4 interesting storylines surrounding this 'rivalry': I.  THE HISTORY OF OCTOBER 4TH Saturday will be the 62nd meeting of The Alabama Crimson Tide and The Ole Miss Rebels Black Bears.  Alabama holds a ridiculous lead in the series winning 51-8-2 record.  These 2 teams have met on October 4th 3 times previously: 1930-  Bama 64   Miss  0 1969-  Bama 33  Miss 32 1975-  Bama 32   Miss  6 So we do have the history of October 4th in our corner. II.  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ADAM GRIFFITH!!! Bama kicker Adam Griffith has been busy making up for the painful end to the 2013 season.  With almost perfect accuracy, h...

2014 SEC- Chaos Defined....

Image
Chaos-  Complete disorder & confusion. Synonyms: 1. DISARRAY Everyone loves The Ole' Ball Coach...  Name another coach with his resume' that is so comfortable letting his freak flag fly?  Yeah, I got nothing either.  But let's all agree that it's time for Spurrier to take his talent to Augusta. For good.  Maty Mauk almost sent him to that golf course in the sky tonight if not for DE David Johnson.  We all love his soundbites but wouldn't you agree that Spurrier is becoming more like your great uncle who farts at Thanksgiving dinner & less like the coaching legend he once was?  I hope Spurrier retires soon & can be remembered for all he contributed to this beloved sport.  If he hangs out much longer, he'll simply be the punchline. 2.  PANDEMONIUM I won't lie.  I bought into the confidence Boom displayed in the pre-season.  And watching the triple overtime win against Kentuc...

It's Florida Week- Get Your Hate On!

Image
T he Alabama Crimson Tide starts SEC play this week when they take on the Florida Gators at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in Bryant Denny Stadium.  I flipping hate Florida, y'all!  I feel like we get so caught up in making fun of Tennessee & dealing with little brother that we don't take the time to give Florida the hate they deserve.  So I felt the need to remind my fellow Bammers of this rich history of hate. While Steve Spurrier was at Florida, his team met The Tide in the 1st ever SEC Championship Game.  Bama was the decisive favorite thanks to our veteran coaching staff led by Gene Stallings & our beastly defense.  But the offensive genius that made the ole' ball coach a legend almost caused an upset.  Thank you Antonio Langham for the interception that broke the tie & ultimately would result in #12.  We would go on to meet Spurrier in the championship 4 more times with an overall record of 2-3.  If that isn't enough, he al...

What Quarterback Controversy? Blake Sims, Y'all!!!

Image
C oach Nick Saban made it clear after today's thrashing of FAU he didn't give a single f#@* what fans think about the quarterback competition going on in T-town.  I'm okay with that because if I had the knowledge it takes to be a 4 time National Championship Coach, I sure as heck wouldn't be pushing drugs for my day job.  With that being said, it doesn't mean I can't have an opinion. I admit it.  In the pre-season, I bought into the Coker hype. Hook. Line. Sinker.  But the more I learn about Blake Sims, the more I fall in love with him.  This year's spring game coupled with mop up duty on numerous stat games thru the years didn't give me any reason to believe in the eternal back-up quarterback.  But after today's game, I got to thinking...  Can someone explain to me when and why 'game manager' became a dirty word?  There's something to be said for being a leader & if memory serves me correctly, those same leadership skills se...

Chaotic Climax- Week 1

Image
W eek 1 of the college football season is in the books & it was pretty intense, y'all!  Yesterday reminded us that the level of success we've become accustomed to isn't as easy to maintain as us Bammers like to think.  I got scared early and often.  But while all you kids play armchair quarterback & dissect every play, I thought I'd lighten the mood and give you my Chaotic Climaxes of the weekend. THE REDEMPTION : Who can forget Adam Griffith's missed field goal to close the regular season last year? If you watch ESPN, The SEC Network, listen to JOX, or use any form of social media, you're reminded many more times than you'd ever care to be.  So when he went 4 for 4 last night, I was like, "heck yeah!".  I feel like it's a major victory anytime I don't fall down the stairs in the stadium, so thinking about the intense pressure that kid has makes me agoraphobic.  The future is bright for Adam & us Bammers dese...
